This is the second post in a 3 part series over the joy of stress (I know, sounds crazy, but bear with me!) If you missed the first post, you can check it out here . In a nutshell I gave some tips and strategies for managing YOU (remember it’s not about managing stress)! A new and wacky way of thinking to be sure, but I’m determined to change the way we think about certain topics.
In today’s post I’m going to dive a bit deeper and ask you to live from the outside in and do some reflection about what causes you stress.
It’s amazing sometimes what we will tolerate in life. A messy closet, a long commute, late appointments; all seemingly little things that really mask what the deeper issues are that are causing stress.
Is that messy closet hiding issues of overwhelm, weight insecurities;
Is the long commute really a cover for how unhappy you are with your job?
Were you late because you were running around like crazy trying to take care of everyone else in the family?
Peeling back the layers of what’s really going on is critical to start managing your YOU and your energy. So what can you start to do?
- Make a list (yes, I know ANOTHER list, but do it anyway!) of all things that are causing your stress levels into an unhappy state.
- Now check your goals list (you do have one right?) You know I’m going to get on you about having goals my friend;-)
- Compare…what is getting between the good stress and the bad stress?
- Generally there are themes as to what is going on in the background: Not enough family time, feeling overwhelmed, feeling out of control, your purpose not being in alignment with your actions.
This can be a painful process, but it is so empowering once you realize that you truly are in control of what you are allowing in your space.
What are your thoughts? How else can you manage your energy to have more of the “good” stress? I’d love to hear your recipes!
