Since I don’t want to contribute to you not focusing on what you should be focusing on 😉 this post is going to be short and sweet!
In the last post we started off with the letter F and now we’re on to O
O–
Optimize your surroundings.
Clear physical clutter away, it’s distracting. Don’t set papers aside, deal with them then and there. Use the “touch it once” strategy. Deal with it immediately!
Some people work well with music or the TV playing in the background, some do not. Personally I like the TV on in the background (I love music, but it actually distracts me because I like to sing and sometimes pop up and bust a move! So I use music as a reward!)
Some people like to have a snack handy, candles burning, etc. Recognize your work style and plan accordingly.
Physical clutter often equates to mental clutter, so make you space inviting, neat and organized (another great O word) in a way that makes sense to you!
Be conscious and aware of the space you are in when you are trying to focus. While your dining room may be convenient, it may not be optimal for focusing purposes.
How do you optimize your environment? Do you need to make changes?
