It’s “U” time…or YOU time! Actually it’s about understanding you. That’s the U in FOCUS=Understanding You. It’s all about understanding you and how you work best.
Let’s face it, it’s hard to focus when you’re tired, hungry, thirsty, preoccupied, distracted, in pain, or have something going on; whether it’s physical or psychological. We all have different energy rhythms and best productivity times as well.
So let’s give you some practical tips and strategies to help you better Understand you.
U–
Understanding You
- Figure out when is your most productive time. Not everyone performs well in the morning or at night. Track when you feel you are “at your best” during the day.
- Know your limits. Most people can work optimally for about 30 minutes. Some more, some less. Set a timer for 15 minutes and work your way up in 5 minute increments and notice when you start feeling tense, restless, or start to avoid what you’re doing. Stand up and stretch!
- Pay attention to your body. Make sure you’re not hungry…or thirsty (a big culprit!), tired or uncomfortable.
- Limit distractions. Really you should be working on one thing at a time. If it’s a value task, then it’s worth your time to concentrate entirely on what you’re doing.
