On Friday March 16th, a hole in my heart that I never knew existed was filled by the birth of my 1st grandchild, who in a very happy coincidence was born on my youngest son’s birthday.
I was honored and privileged to see him enter the world and there are no words that adequately express the joy, love, and gratitude we in the room felt when Jaxson arrived.
A new life…infinite possibilities…an as yet untraveled life map full of paths and potential
I look at your tiny feet and toes and wonder where they will take you on your life’s journey…
I look at your hands and fingers and contemplate what work you will bring forth into the world…
I look at your bright eyes and consider what those eyes will see…
I look at that sweet mouth and think about you telling me your hopes and dreams…
I look at your fragile arms and legs and think how big and strong they will be one day…
I look at your innocence and vulnerability and pray that it will grow into independence and resiliency…
I look at you and my heart swells with love as I think that you carry in your little person the combined heritage and DNA of all of your Mommy and Daddy’s families.
I held you so tightly in my arms
Traced your fingers that were gently curled
Through tears of joy, I whispered quietly
My beautiful grandchild, welcome to the world.
You represent our very best hopes and dreams.
Of all the 6 billion people on earth there is no one like you; you are special and unique and no one will be able to do the things you will do someday.
My greatest wish for you is that you follow your passions and live a life of fulfillment and happiness.
Know that you are loved beyond measure and we feel so very blessed that God has entrusted us with you.
May you always walk in sunshine.
May you never want for more.
May Angels rest their wings
beside your nursery door.
And for the proud parents:
God has granted you
a wee bit of heaven
to cradle in your arms –
a sweet baby boy
to hold close to your heart
A newborn babe
brings light to the house
warmth to the hearth
and joy to the soul
for wealth is family
family is wealth.
