OK, whew…you’ve located your WHY! Man, is that thing dusty! You’ve got it off the shelf and you’re starting to blow the dust off of it (*cough, cough*).
As I mentioned in an earlier post, you’ve got to get your WHY off the mental shelf and see if it’s still the WHY you want…so how do we do that?
Well, let’s review the question you should be asking yourself:
WHY am I here?
Now there are variations on this question such as WHAT is my purpose, but ultimately it can be boiled down to:
WHY am I here?
Why did the billions of cells come together in such a way that YOU were created? Why have YOU had the experiences, challenges and life changes that have made you YOU? (much of that is also personal choice, but that’s a topic for another day;-) )
So if you’re WHY looks a bit faded, outdated, or downright dingy here’s what you need to do to at least make it presentable:
Write down on a piece of paper:
WHY AM I HERE?
As ideas pop in your head, just write. Doesn’t have to be complete sentences or grammatically correct (don’t worry I won’t be looking over your shoulder). Keep writing down stuff until you write something that makes you cry. I AM NOT KIDDING.
That one thing that you write on that paper that is gut wrenching, scary, and makes you want to throw up is WHY you are here.
After watching people at an event I recently attended bravely share their WHY’s, I am convinced that if it doesn’t make you cry, it’s not your true WHY.
Is this easy…hell no (which is why we stick the WHY up on a shelf and fugettaboutit. In fact you probably will be to be incredibly frustrated, pissed off and inclined to think I’m a complete whackjob. That’s ok, I’m cool with that (it’s part of MY WHY).
Remember you need about 30 minutes of no interruptions, no distractions (go hide in the bathroom or the car if you have to)…just YOU.
Drop in next time and we’ll make that WHY all sparkly and pretty and I’ll share mine with you
