I find when talking with folks about the power of visualization, that there is a common misconception that “visualization techniques” are reserved for athletes who are interested in improving performance. NOT TRUE! Visualization is a powerful tool that can be used to effectively harness the power of your mind to manifest your goals.
Now I’m going to venture out onto some controversial turf because the general thinking is that just by thinking about what you want and creating a picture of it, it will come true (the basic Law of Attraction). I tend to disagree with that thinking.
Here’s the thing about visualizing what you want in life: when you devote that much mind power and energy to what your dreams and goals are it motivates you to start taking action to what you want.
Using visualization is a powerful mind tool creating a flow of positive energy. It’s much more powerful than just positive thinking. It’s a way of finding out who we really are, how we feel about ourselves and how those feelings may be holding us back from realizing our true potential. Once you see this mindset, you can work on changing them to lead a more harmonious, productive life.
Here are some keys to visualization:
* Be as specific as you can in your visualization. What are you wearing? Who are the people there with you? What, exactly, are you doing in your visualization? You must create a vivid, clear picture in your mind of what your goal is.
* Use real pictures that come as close as possible to what you have envisioned in your mind. The purpose of this is to have a tangible guide accessible at all times.
* Create a “vision board”- this is a visual representation of what you want, who you want to become, where you want to live, etc. I recommend finding a picture of yourself where you are smiling and radiant and put that picture in the center of your vision board.
I like to call a vision board a “treasure map”…it’s a map filled with all of the things you treasure in your life and each goal that you master is one more to treasure as a symbol of your positive thinking and action taking initiative.
All the best…
Danielle
