I’ve always been a perfectionist.
I used to not like doing things unless I could be perfect at it…things that were in essence, safe.
Because “safe’ isn’t messy is it?
Safe is all nice and tidy, neat as a pin, I-know-exactly-what-is-coming-next
SAFE
Thankfully, I got over it (for the most part)
Because being an entrepreneur and having a Brand isn’t really safe, is it?
Being an entrepreneur is messy and at times, horrifyingly imperfect.
Perfectionism either keeps you stuck or suspicious
Things can always be done better, and if it’s done amazingly well, there is always this squiggly feeling that it was ‘too easy’.
Personality Brands will never be perfect.period.
Oh I know you see them, the Brands that are jetting off to exotic locations, who always look perfectly put together, who talk about the fact that
running their business comes from a place of ease and flow…and while that may be true now, you can bet your bottom dollar that that wasn’t
always the case (I doubt that it’s even the case now).
The point is you probably haven’t seen those Brands when they were really messy and unclear…and struggling.
I see so many amazing women who do incredible work, who truly care about their clients, and who have impactful messages to share
stay stuck and hidden because of the need to have “it” perfect (whatever that particular “it” is at the time)…which is a damn shame.
Because while you’re waiting for perfect, your message is withering away on the vine, and you’re watching other Personality Brands pluck
the very fruit you are trying to reach.
This can be especially challenging if you are a Creator or Sage Archetype. These Archetypes will self-sabotage themselves with perfectionism over and over again
unless they are willing to call upon a Supporting Archetype to break the cycle.
If you find yourself struggling with the perfectionism gremlin, consider these tips:
You’ve obviously been successful before at various endeavors, what were they and why did you consider them a success?
Get some gratitude going for your unique gifts (you know, those very things about yourself that you take for granted)
Look back over rave client reviews
Surround yourself with colleagues who will support you
Get a coach who will push you out of your perfectionism zone
