One of the biggest challenges people face is the ability to FOCUS. We are constantly being told to focus, stay focused, and to try to focus…but we don’t seem to quite know what focus is or how to do it!
The first thing you have to do is figure what is the highest ROI (return on investment) thing that you need to focus on.
Essential Ingredient: That may or may not be a monetary thing. Maybe your health is not where it should be, or you are having difficulties in an important relationship.
The key (and I think this is a critical point) is that whatever we are focusing on at the moment, we need to understand that it’s a temporary thing.
So let’s say you have an important project you need to work on because it’s going to increase your income (so it’s a monetary focus), it’s important to know and be ok with the fact that others areas are not going to get the same amount of intensity that this project is requiring of you (hence the eternal myth of balance-there isn’t one!)
OK…off that soapbox for the moment! I’ve taken the word FOCUS and made it into an acronym (the teacher in me coming out), so let’s start the F.
F-
Find your Focus. This means carving out a block of time that is dedicated solely to the highest value tasks. See above to figure that out.
Grabbing 15 minutes here or there, jumping from one thing to the other, and trying to multitask are not conducive to using your time most productively. Allot specific times for specific tasks.
What do you think the “O” stands for? Got a guess? Let’s hear it!
