Have you ever read (or seen) the movie The Unbearable Lightness of Being? The underlying philosophical premise of the book is that we only have one life to live, and that whatever occurs in that life will never be repeated again in precisely the same way. In knowing that, there is a ‘lightness’ of being. We can be freer to experiment, explore, succeed, and of course, fail.
“vertigo is something other than the fear of falling.
It is the voice of emptiness below us which tempts and lures us, it is the desire to fall, against which, terrified, we defend ourselves.” ~Milan Kundera
I was thinking about this lightness of being and how it relates to being seen in your brand.
I’ve overheard in many conversations over the last month (New Year ya know) about wanting to be ‘seen’ in some way shape or form.
Maybe…
You have made the decision that in 2014 you will:
“up your game”
“step into your brilliance”
“step out of your comfort zone”
“uplevel”
“play a bigger game”
“declare who you are”
“live larger”
“fine tune your frequency”
“go bigger”
You see other people experiencing phenomenal success doing what the things you want to do.
And in your heart of hearts: “Look at so-and-so, why is she having all this success and I am not?”
You’re ready, you were born to do this work dammit,
and you’re quivering with excitement over this.
Your heart is beating fast, the possibilities are almost too dizzying to consider, and you feel the endorphins kicking in…and then;
The fear and discomfort kick in. Imposter syndrome rears it’s big, ugly head and you diminish..and shrink.
Because in the lightness of being seen there is vulnerability, exposure, mind-numbing fear, quivering fingers as you hit the publish key, a feeling of terror and exhilaration all.at.once.
Because what if you fail
Because what if you succeed
Because what if you declare what you want and people judge you
Dear Sweet Soul…all of the above will happen if you dare to be seen.
And know that you.are.not.alone.
Every person who allows herself to be seen has those “hooooly shitake, I can’t believe I’m going to do this” thoughts.
This is why having an aligned brand is so very critical to having and doing what you want.
When your brand is in alignment you have clarity on:
your values
your why
your superpowers
your unique voice
how to attract your right people
building your community + platform
being comfortable in the value of what you do
Yes, you will still experience discomfort (and often downright terror), but you will have a rock solid foundation to plant your freak flag stake in the ground.
There is no else that can do what you do in the way you do it…believe it.
Hi Danielle! What a great way to start the weekend filled with your wonderful reminders. Yes! I’m willing to be seen….and I LOVE that quote by Lucille Ball,
“I’d rather regret the things I’ve done rather than the things I haven’t done!” Thanks for all the great suggestions. ~Kathy
Hey Kathy!
So glad you enjoyed this. AND I am really, really glad you are willing to be seen…the world needs you 🙂 Lucille Ball is one of my idols; what an amazing chick she was!
Thank you for stopping by today and have a fantastic weekend!
Warmly,
Danielle
